University of Dundee Students & Staff Excel in Enterprise Challenge Final

The Centre for Entrepreneurship’s Enterprise Challenge came to its conclusion on Thursday 23 November 2023 with the teams pitching their business ideas in front of the audience and a panel of judges.
The Enterprise Challenge allows staff, students, and recent graduates to learn the fundamentals of starting a business whilst meeting new people across the university, networking with Dundee’s entrepreneurial community, and gaining valuable experience to serve them in any future careers. Having started the process of thinking of a business idea, the participants formed teams, wrote their business plan, and were ready to pitch at the final after 8 weeks.
A £1500 prize pot was on offer for the teams who had the desire to pursue their idea following the Challenge. Everyone who completed the programme earned their skills certificate as well.
New Ideas Award Winner: team Leximos
Congratulations to Sayed Murad and Man Chun Shom from Leximos who won the New Ideas category as well as the Best Pitch Award! Sayed has recently completed his MSc in Computer Science from the School of Science & Engineering. Meanwhile, Man Chun is a current postgraduate student at the School of Medicine, working towards a Master's degree in Medical Education.
Leximos is an adaptive language learning platform offering personalised learning experiences, tailoring vocabulary and cultural insights to each user’s unique goals and industries. They will receive £1000 to kickstart their business idea.
New Ideas Award Runner-up: team PUFIN Solutions
Runners-up James Friel and Dr Richard Hammond of PUFIN Solutions will receive £500 to develop their idea of a novel remote monitoring tool to allow clinicians to provide a higher quality of palliative care to patients living with pulmonary fibrosis at a reduced cost.
James is a Senior Research Software Engineer at Health & Clinical Services, Richard is an Honorary Clinical Lecturer in undergraduate medicine at the University of Dundee.
Enterprising Team Award Winner: team Bank Budee
Congratulations to Marinah Murray and Katie McLay with their idea of Bank Budee - a wallet that is adapted to support those with physical disabilities that make everyday activities like paying for things difficult.
Marinah and Katie, both students at the School of Business, are respectively undertaking an MA in International Business and working towards a BA in Accountancy. They have each won an advanced Insights Discovery Profile (worth £300 each).
