Join community musician and composer Claire Gorman to create a collaborative sound piece inspired by the shapes, colours, textures and stories of the University’s collection of 19th and 20th century chairs.
This is a chance to get up close with the University’s iconic chair collection and get creative in an afternoon of sound making.
An experienced facilitator, Claire will guide participants through a collaborative process involving sound-making, mark-making, movement and creative writing to produce a final piece to be performed at the end of the session. Expect a playful afternoon of creativity, sonic exploration and appreciation of chairs.
No previous musical experience is needed and complete beginners are welcome. We will be using our voices and experimenting with a variety of small instruments and ‘found-sound’ objects. Please note all voices are welcome - this approach is about playful exploration and has nothing to do with sounding pretty or singing ‘in tune’!* This workshop is suitable for those ages 16 and upwards.
*Of course anyone who is shy to vocalise is welcome to use instruments and sound objects instead :-)
*Please meet at the Tower Reception
