Figurative acrylic painting investigating complex human relationships through voyeuristic surveillance of a domestic household

About

Lucie Kate Robbie is a Scottish figurative painter and printmaker.  Her work is heavily inspired by human connection and cohabitation.  This has been completed through a personal investigation into the instinctual human need to have an emotional and physical attachment to each other.

Acrylic paint is used to express the artist's strong connection with those featured in her work with the images originating from security footage within the homes of her close family.

The artist aims to contradict the negative reputation surveillance has within a technological society.  Video surveillance is used as a tool to capture these moments as they happen within the artist’s family home to study the dynamics of complex family relationships.  She hopes to express love and comfort within a domestic household through an intuitive and expressive approach to painting, drawing the viewer in to study the connection each person has to one another.

She used her own personal experience to bring attention to philosophical issues of instinctual socialisation of humans.  She questions authenticity of public social dynamics with many documentations of day to day life being skewed in a technological modern age, and contemplates the place surveillance has in a private setting as opposed to a public one.

The artist has obtained consent from those involved to comply with surveillance ethics and privacy laws.

A figure is sat curled up on a couch central in the painting. Her hands are raised up to her face and the figure looks off to the left of the painting. There are streaks of pale white bruise strokes that covered and distort the figure throughout the painting.
