Graduation terms and conditions

Students attending the University Graduation Ceremony must agree to the following terms and conditions.

The University wishes for its Graduation Ceremonies and Receptions to be a time of celebration for Students, their friends, and families. The University aims to ensure that everyone in our University community feels safe and welcome at these events. 

By attending a University Graduation Ceremony, you are agreeing to be subject to the following terms and conditions: 

Tickets

Attendance at any Graduation Ceremony and Reception is by ticket only. All persons, students and their guests will need to present their tickets at the entrance of the venue. All tickets are non-transferable.  

Data Protection and Privacy

The University may use footage from a Graduation Ceremony and/or Reception for marketing purposes, including media postings and online postings. Please see the University’s Privacy Notice for more information about how the University handles student personal data. 

Health and Safety of Students and Guests

Students and guests must abide by any reasonable instructions of the University and/or Event Venue Staff in relation to any applicable rules, regulations, guidelines, and policies, including fire, health and safety regulations at the Graduation Ceremony and Receptions. 

The University reserves the right to refuse admission, re-admission or attendance to any Student or guest to the Graduation Ceremony and Receptions. Any violations of the above could result in Students and/or their Guest being asked to leave the Graduation Ceremonies and/or Receptions. 

Student Rules

The University Student Rules continue to apply to Students attending Graduation Ceremonies and Receptions. The University reserves the right to refuse entry to any Students not abiding by the University Student Rules, prior to or during the event. 

The University reserves the right to ask any person to leave the Graduation Ceremony and Reception venue and take subsequent action under its Student Rules in the case of a Student (i) if they act in any manner which is disruptive to the proceedings or to other attendees and/or (ii) to safeguard the proceedings or attendees at the Graduation Ceremonies and Reception. No ticket refunds will be available in such circumstances. 

Formalities

Students must arrive, register, be in Academic Dress and be seated in the auditorium before the start of the Graduation Ceremony. Guests must be seated before the start of the Graduation Ceremony. 

Students who arrive late may be refused entry and lose their place in the Graduation Ceremony.  

The University  reserves the right to cancel any Graduation Ceremony and/or Reception for reasons beyond its control, including but not limited to by reason of war, fire, flood, storm, explosion, act of God, failure or shortage of power supplies, national emergency, labour dispute, strike, civil disturbance, acts or threats of terrorism, non-performance by suppliers or subcontractors, serious illness or pandemic, or any other cause or event not within the control of the University (including without limitation the actions of any authority or body whose approval or licence is required for the Graduation Ceremonies and Receptions, or the evacuation of the whole or any part of the ceremony venue by reason of emergency). In such circumstances, the University shall not have any liability to the Students or Guests. 

Glossary

Academic Dress

Academic Dress means the formal academic dress for the Graduation Ceremony which should be hired from the official University robemaker, Ede & Ravenscroft 

Reception

Reception means a drinks celebration which takes place after the Graduation Ceremony. 

Student

Student means a matriculated student of the University  

University Student Rules

University Student Rules means the University statutes, ordinances, student regulations, policies, and procedures.
