Notice of change of status for US Federal Loan Program

Information regarding the University's withdrawal of participation in the Federal Loan Program and what this means for students and applicants.

The William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program (“Federal Loan Program”) offers direct loans to eligible students and parents to assist with the financial costs of education.

Effective from Wednesday 5 April 2023, the University of Dundee has withdrawn its participation in the Federal Loan Program. What this means for you will depend on your year of study at the University of Dundee.

Current students

Expecting further loan payments this academic year (2022/23)

Please be reassured that any remaining loan disbursements for the 2022/23 academic year will continue to be honoured.

Graduating in summer 2024

The University of Dundee will be able to award and disburse direct loans and process loan deferments under the Federal Loan Program for current students during the 2023/24 academic year. This means that if you are already receiving funds from the Federal Loan Program in 2022/23 and plan to renew for the 2023/24 academic year, you can continue to do so.

Graduating in summer 2025 or later

The University of Dundee will be able to award and disburse direct loans and process loan deferments under the Federal Loan Program for any current students during the 2023/24 academic year. This means that if you are already receiving funds from the Federal Loan Program in 2022/23 and plan to renew for the 2023/24 academic year, you can continue to do so.

At this moment in time, for academic years 2024/25 and beyond you will not be able to apply for funding through the Federal Loan Programme. The University of Dundee will update this page if it re-joins the Federal Loan Program in the future.

Below is a list of potential alternative sources of private student loan funding which you may wish to investigate for the 2024/25 academic year and beyond. The University of Dundee is not connected to either of these companies and you should compare their terms and conditions to choose the best one for your own circumstances.

About to graduate and apply for a postgraduate course

If you are considering continuing to study with us on a different programme after you graduate this summer, the Federal Loan Program considers you to be a new student and unfortunately you will not be eligible to apply for any additional loans from the Federal Loan Program.

Applicants

Applied to study in September 2023 or January 2024

The University of Dundee is no longer authorised to award or disburse direct loans for new students or process any loan deferments under the Federal Loan Program.
