How the Nursery ensures the safety of children and their families during the drop off and collection of children.

On this page

This policy has been adapted to ensure the safety of children and their families during the drop off and collection of children. We will endeavour to maintain the government guidelines throughout the nursery day and have put the following procedure in place to support this. Arrivals and departures of visitors During this pandemic only necessary bodies will be within the nursery setting. If we need essential works carried out, we will ensure that those carrying out the works are aware of the current procedures in place. We will ensure that they are correctly following the procedures and where possible empty the needed room to ensure the children and staff are not in contact.

Arrival procedure

To maintain the social distancing between families and staff we will be following the below procedure.

  • Parents are still expected to drop off child at the door as it has been observed by staff that quick goodbye to parents at the door is less stressful for children. If child is displaying any difficulties to separate with parents, we are inviting parents to their home room or garden to support child emotionally.
  • Each room has a designated drop off and collection area, this was clearly arranged with all parents.
  • We ask that you remain at a 1-metre distance from the person in front and behind you.
  • Face masks are no longer mandatory, however we will respect the right of individual who wish to wear them.
  • Once the child enters the nursery, we will supervise them to the bathroom to wash their hands.
  • The room leader will ensure all children attending the nursery are logged into the daily register.
  • If the parent/carer requests that the child is given medicine during the day the staff member must ensure that the administration of medication procedure is followed. We ask when possible that if a child requires medication, this is phoned/email beforehand so staff can prepare the necessary forms.
  • Medication must be placed straight from child’s bag into their medication box which is visibly labelled (Child’s D.O.B., full name and photo). Any member of staff dealing with medication must wash hands after placing medication into the medication box minimising the risk of cross contamination – COVID-19
  • If a lot of parents are arriving at once we ask that parents maintain social distancing between families.

Departure procedure

  • If a child has medication this will be collected from the medicine box/fridge when the parent has arrived and will be placed in the child’s bag for you to retrieve. Parents will be provided with a Medication Administration Form and will be informed what time and how much medication has been given to their child.
  • If a child has had an accident/ incident during the nursery day we will discuss this over the phone with you and provide a form to be signed at the end of the day.
  • Senior member of staff or person in charge will ensure all children departing the nursery are logged out of the daily register.
  • The nursery staff will contact child’s emergency contact for any children who have not been collected at the end of their session.
  • If parents/carers are collecting their child out of working hours, a late collection form must be completed.
  • Specific procedures for staff allocated at DUSA building are kept in “Staff procedures for excepting from and handling over to parents in Golden Eagles”. All staff are aware of these procedures.
  • Parents/carers are welcome to collect their child from home room or garden. We will encourage you to keep social distance with staff and other families whilst at nursery building.

Please be advised where children are not collected promptly at the end of their session the nursery reserves the right to charge a late payment fee. Currently late collection fee is £16,50 per 5 min.  Any charges will be added to the next invoice.

We have a duty of care and a responsibility to safeguard all children, if we consider any person collecting a child to be unsuitable, we will contact the parent/carer or other authorised person to come and collect the child. This includes any person, including parents/carers, collecting a child who appears to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Nursery would like to advice parents/carers to organise their child’s bag appropriately to the weather and numbers of days their child attend nursery. Nurseries are advised to make parents aware that child should kept all belongings at nursery and take them home at their last day at nursery, to minimise any COVID – 19 spreads.

If the child is not to be collected by the parent/carer at the end of the session, an agreed procedure must be followed to identify the nominated adult e.g., a password or photo identification. Parents/carers must always inform staff if someone different is collecting their child. No child will be handed over to anyone other than the known parent/carer unless an agreement has been made at the time of arrival.

Parents must arrive for 5.00pm in order to receive full feedback. If a parent arrives 5.16pm onwards the child will be in the late collection meeting point where the correct paperwork must be completed.
