About

Azra Khan

I’ve always been interested in Illustration from a young age. I remember as a kid, I’d rush back from school to watch my favourite cartoons and anime, which helped inspired me to become the artist I am today. I loved how art can be used to create fun, yet complex characters, and explore certain subjects that as a kid, I hadn’t seen before.

It’s taken a while for me to be comfortable with my art, and even find a style that I enjoyed, but throughout being at university, especially in my last couple of semesters, I feel I’ve been able to explore as much as I could, especially with ongoing strikes and COVID interruptions.

However, this past year, I’ve found a lot of passion for storyboarding, concept art and creating children's books. I loved doing my children's book, Poppy Takes Japan, as it allowed me to use fun and bold colours and create playful illustrations. Furthermore, the Glasgow woman's library was also great to work on to explore further with storyboarding. I wanted to create a strong, almost cinematic like composition that conveys the story, but also is intriguing to look at.
