“For many people, the pandemic has led to a blurring of our work and life boundaries... This can make it harder to switch off and detach.” (Dr Sophie Bostock, Huel)
The Proaster is a desk accessory consisting of 2 main elements; the toaster and a deck of prompt cards. These prompt cards come in 3 categories; purpose, focus and rest. This product aims to help its user be productive and proactive during working hours through the positive well-being prompts.
The product itself is inspired by the interactions of the household toaster and relies on the power of the prompt card design. The user selects a prompt card (or multiple prompt cards) relevant to what they want to achieve and insert it into the toaster. They then select a time; 20, 40 or 60 minutes, and push down the lip to start the time. Once the time is up, the prompt card(s) will pop up to prompt the user to take action.
