About

Eleanor Oliver

This body of work invites the viewer to consider the multiple physical and conceptual points at which images are framed. Mixed media is used to demarcate abstract compositions which continually tighten and loosen the frames through which the work is viewed. This installation heavily features various techniques of image transfer to re-affirm the isolated and fragmented image into a network of others. In this process, it is not the bare canvas, but the existing image
that the work gradually forms around, a process that must be as much subtractive as it is additive in order to create a unified whole. Across various surfaces ‘found imagery’ from online platforms have been assembled into new works as collage, lifted from the screen, and transferred onto worked grounds. In doing so, the artist makes reference to the (im)material tensions of the digitized image, which are the abstraction and flattening of a material object for screen representation.
