Textiles act as a medium between humans and our environment, shaping our experiences and influencing our health and wellbeing. By exaggerating structures such as hairs, dimples and veins, this collection explores biomimetic textile construction to create fabrics which can enhance our bodies natural response to our surroundings. The collection seeks to initiate a more intimate relationship between our bodies, our clothing and the environment, recognising that human and environmental health are inextricably connected.

As a designer my drive to create a sustainable future comes first and foremost in my practice. When I think of textiles, I don’t just see a fabric. I see a process which encompasses every aspect of that garment’s lifecycle, starting and ending with the land. I chose to showcase the versatile properties of wool in my designs, a natural and biodegradable fibre which can - and historically has been - produced in Scotland. Producing wool as part of a regenerative system significantly reduces its carbon footprint, making it an excellent choice for sustainable garments.

In recent years outdoor clothing has begun to permeate into the mainstream fashion market, and as a result consumers are demanding greater performance and versatility from their everyday garments. This collection aims to promote the use of wool as a technical performance fibre, one which is best suited to creating versatile and durable garments which consumers will hold dear to them for a lifetime.
