A nature influenced rocking chair, with a crocheted seat inspired by the hues of Auchenblae.

About

“Sit a Wee While” harnesses the art of crochet to re-imagine the structural possibilities of furniture design. A rocking chair inspired by the landscape and hues of Auchenblae, gently swaying users into a state of relaxation and tranquillity within their home. Combining the traditional Scottish oak with the soft, tactile nature of crocheted cotton rope creates a harmonious blend of tradition and playfulness. The crocheted seat hugs and supports the body of the user to entail a comforting experience, which invites them to enjoy the simple pleasures of sitting.

In the earlier days of the project, I was interested in viewing the possibilities of crochet in ways other than clothes or decorative items. Exploring it in larger scale settings and incorporating it into contemporary design contexts, aiding in the final concept.

The hand-crafted and dyed crochet seat is unique and effectively encapsulates the project’s objectives, evoking users to relax, rock and sit a wee while.
