West Ward Quirks is a retirement living experience which strives to encourage the fulfilment of the next chapter in life. While the working days are over the business and hustle of day-to-day life does not come to a halt as some may expect.

As most retirement living is full of the beige and mundane stereotypes of getting older. west ward quirks thrive to be the point in which life rebegins.

The experience is all about you. Everyone has their own individual quirks and idiosyncrasies that make them unique and west ward quirks is the place for these to be celebrated. In the bustling heart of Dundee the living space encourages both intimate living with a village type feel while being a doormat to the surrounding community to become the community beacon of blackness.

Located within the derelict setting of the previous west ward works printing building. the design incorporates many of the existing buildings eye-catching and quirky features into an adaptive reuse proposal of the space. The iconic oversized window along the Blinshall street facade become the viewpoints into the new upper floor flats. while the striking pitched roof inspires a series of welcome arches along the front facade into the new complex.

the proposal embraces the slightly industrial materiality and intertwines this with the new and explosive injections of colours and fun to create a new approach to aged living.
