This collection is response to the human ability to create so much artificial light that it fades the stars from view. Compositions bring together the distant light and natural beauty of our night sky with the artificial world we create on the ground. That natural light, so faint to the naked eye, merged with gridiron street patterns at night and shapes created by artificial light become the focus of my research.

Attempting to capture and replicate patterns created by artificial light is the other focal point of this collection. The movement and glare of light in darkness creates patterns that are playful, beautiful and can be a source of comfort in the night. However, the light that humans create dampens star light, a source of wonder, imagination, and history.

Holding these two contrasting thoughts in tension, the work became geometric structures of precious metal and gemstones. The stones are caught, floating and encased within grids of metal, partially obscured from view while allowing us to contain them.
