About

Robert Fowler

With the rediscovery of the inherent human need for natural spaces for wellbeing, The project 'Integrating the Urban Biome' explores how natural spaces are both essential to the recovery of the human condition within post-disaster environments and how it can be utilised too maximise the resilience of communities and urban spaces to future disasters.

Through the reconsideration of the city as an urban biome, the approach to the conservation of the human life can be achieved through the protection of the whole ecosystem. By integrating natural spaces throughout the existing human realm, the human and natural world is brought back together, allowing nature to act as the foundation upon which the healing of the human condition can be promoted. Natural systems can then be utilised to better provide the human necessities of food, water, shelter and power.

Roberts work is predominately text and design based. A photo book has also been created documenting the existing conditions found in post-disaster areas and the differences of the perception through the news compared to first hand experiences, focussing upon the culture.
