Examining the relationship between place, health, and wellbeing in Falkirk using GIS.

Ross Mcateer

This project provides a fresh take on examining the relationship that people have with their environment and how it affects their physical and mental health. It builds upon the pre-established links between place and health and views them through the lens of inequality using GIS. Participants were asked to engage with a geotag supported survey that asked them to photograph aspects of their neighbourhood that were important to them and answer questions relating to feelings of pride, community, safety and the quality of the public realm. Additionally, professionals in planning and health sectors were interviewed surrounding their practice in local authority, regeneration, and mental health services. The findings from these methods were then analysed and recommendations that aim to address resources, health and community to benefit health and wellbeing outcomes.
