You will explore health and wellbeing and what this means. You will also explore other common policies and theories.

Next issues that can impact the health and wellbeing of children will be explored. You will develop your observation skills before exploring potential solutions for positive change.

You will develop your understanding of health and wellbeing on children’s development. You will achieve this by accessing a range of core theories, principles and concepts.

You will develop your methods of observation. This will let you put in place strategies to promote positive health and wellbeing for the children and/or young people you work with.

You will reflect on how an enabling environment can be achieved. This will allow you to think about the importance of this to your setting and your professional development.

What you will learn

In this module, you will:

  • explore Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory ·and Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs
  • understand the similarities and differences between the social model of health and the medical model of health
  • explore the impact of promoting resilience, self-esteem, and confidence with regard to learning
  • develop your observation techniques in line with ethical considerations
  • consider when professional support may be required to promote positive change
  • understand the dynamics of working with parents to promote positive change

By the end of the module, you will be able to:

  • understand the importance of wellbeing with regards to children’s development
  • discuss a range of core theories, principles and concepts in relation to health and wellbeing
  • carry out routine lines of enquiry, development or investigation into professional level problems and issues (observation and child study)
  • reflect upon an effective range of strategies which support children’s health and wellbeing

Assignments / assessment

  • essay 2,000 words (100%)

Teaching methods / timetable

Each week you will have expected to complete online self-study content in which you are encouraged to be actively engaged with.

Online webinars will take place which are recorded and form key learning within the module. 

There is also the opportunity to submit a short formative essay, prior to the final assignment, to gain some feedback on your writing.
