Everyone can benefit from having an understanding of entrepreneurism, even if you don't intend to start your own business.

The concepts, principles, and theories discussed will help you develop your strategic skills, relevant for working both for yourself or as an employee.

By developing your skills to critically assess current issues, influences and models, you will be able to apply your new knowledge to the world around you and find new opportunities.

This module allows you to enhance your knowledge and analytical abilities in strategic thinking which will help you throughout your career.

What you will learn

In this module, you will:

  • learn about the models, processes and approaches in entrepreneurship
  • develop successful business ideas and the ability to extract valuable insights from real-world examples of "what works" and the conditions that facilitate success
  • apply theoretical approaches to real-time cases, enabling you to bridge the gap between theory and practice
  • understand the strategic issues unique to the entrepreneurial context
  • be able to discuss entrepreneurship and the approach of mature organizations and their ability to innovate and apply entrepreneurship strategy

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • demonstrate your entrepreneurial capabilities by applying your knowledge and skills in practical settings
  • critically review your entrepreneurial know-how, focusing on key areas such as creativity, opportunity recognition, and understanding policies relevant to entrepreneurs
  • present your critical thinking and collaboration skills, highlighting your ability to process complex situations, think innovatively, and work effectively in teams

  • Individual assignment (70%)

This module does not have a final exam.

Teaching methods / timetable

This module will be delivered by a combination of lectures, group discussions, guest lectures and case studies and most weeks you will be in class for two hours a week.

Active learning, with team work to encourage interaction and sharing of experience, with examples from ‘real life’ will enable you to actively set up a business.

Expect to have read and researched in advance, as well as work within your groups and participating in class discussion.
