You will spend most of this module within your placement, undertaking an Internship, bringing together all your learning across the degree to combine both theory and practical work experience. Each week you will also attend classes covering a topic to help you make the most of your Internship.

What you will learn

In this module, you will:

  • enhance your critical understanding of Community Education in practice. This will cover the theories, values and philosophies that it is made up of.
  • deepen your ability to undertake Community Education Practice. You will also engage with the opportunities available in the agency. This allows you to maintain professional standards
  • strengthen your ability to share your critical understanding of Community Education practice

By the end of the module you will be able to:

  • show your ability to independently engage in Community Education practice
  • negotiate with colleagues in the field along with community members. This will help in the planning, implementation and evaluation of your final year project
  • show how your practice is influenced by the theories, values, competencies and philosophies that make up Community Education
  • es, values and philosophical underpinnings of Community Education in practice 
  • deepen your ability to undertake Community Education Practice and to engage fully with the opportunities available in the agency and maintain professional standards
  • strengthen your ability to share your critical understanding of Community Education practice

By the end of the module you will be able to:

Assignments / assessment

  • Viva presentation, one hour (100%)

The 4th year Practice Learning consists of 80 days of supervised practice.

In line with the requirements of the Community Learning and Development Standards Council, your practice is assessed by fieldwork supervisors supported by lecturers.

You will delivery a presentation towards the end of your internship. This will be to your supervisor and advisor of studies. This will include details about the work you have completed, reflections on your practice and reference to relevant theories.

There will be time at the end for a discussion about your presentation. This will allow you to provide more details to strengthen your grade.

This module does not have a final exam

Teaching methods / timetable

The method of engagement in this module is primarily out on internship with an additional lecture and tutorial.

These include group-work, group discussion and invited speakers from the field of practice. Tutorials will allow you to discuss different topics in more depth in small groups.
