This module provides you with the opportunity to participate in an industrial placement over the summer prior to your final year of study.

This placement will provide you with a unique chance to develop your career aspirations and gain first-hand experience working in the computing industry. You will have the opportunity to apply for competitive placement positions with both local and national industry partners. Throughout your placement, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable skills and knowledge that will help you succeed in your future career.

What you will learn

The content of your placement will vary depending on the company and position that you join.

During your industrial placement, you may:

  • go through work induction processes
  • be involved in software design and development projects
  • learn about new technologies used in the workplace
  • conduct software testing
  • interact with clients
  • adhere to professional standards and expectations

By the end of your placement, you will have gained valuable experience in the workplace. You will also be able to demonstrate new professional and technical skills to add to your portfolio.

Assignments / assessment

A pass/fail will be assessed based on the following assessment points:

  • weekly reports
  • final presentation and report
  • report from the work placement supervisor

This module does not have a final exam.

Teaching methods / timetable

You will undertake a work placement under the supervision of a workplace supervisor. There are no scheduled classes.

If required, support for CV and report writing will be offered by the module staff.
