Every Thursday throughout the academic year, a different speaker presents a lecture pertinent to the study of art and design. The programme of lectures in Semester 1 is designed to complement the practical, studio modules that are delivered on the other days of the week. These lectures offer you additional insight towards your project topics by including talks from artists and designers. The focus of the lectures at the start of Semester 2 is on the wider context of art and design history. The lecture programme finishes with a short series of career-orientated talks.

There is a written assignment for this module. You will be asked to write an essay about an artwork that interests you and that you have studied during the first Semester. This may have been included in one of the lectures or be from one of the studio modules it complements. The lectures in this module are timetabled to synchronise with the studio timetable, making them timely and effective as well as being highly beneficial to expanding your knowledge of the subjects you are studying.
