This module builds on Teaching Across the Curriculum 1.

It will help you to deepen and extend your understanding of key classroom learning and teaching approaches.

It also covers the core pedagogies that support effective learning and teaching.

You will gain confidence in classroom practice. You will learn topics such as:

  • key teaching content
  • key pedagogies for effective teaching
  • approaches to planning and assessment

What you will learn

In this module, you will:

  • learn core curricular content. These will be in subject areas such as:
    • Language
    • Mathematics
    • Science
    • Social Studies
    • Expressive Arts
    • Religious and Moral Education (RME)
  • explore and discuss core curricular policies and documents
  • learn key pedagogical approaches to learning and teaching. This will help you to understand how to teach key concepts within the primary classroom
  • learn how to apply your learning to create curricular plans

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • understand the principles of curriculum design and contexts for learning
  • plan coherent, progressive, and stimulating teaching programmes which match learners’ needs and abilities
  • use a range of teaching strategies and resources to meet the needs and abilities of learners
  • access and use appropriate professional literature relating to the primary curriculum
