This module and its assignment will introduce you to the significance of inquiry, research, and reflection as essential components of the teaching profession. It will also help you prepare for the Thesis module in Year 4 of the programme, where you will conduct an independent research project.

You will examine components of the research process in education and develop skills, knowledge, and understanding related to the research process.
 

What you will learn

In this module, you will:

  • develop a critical knowledge and understanding of how research contributes to your own learning and professional development
  • develop knowledge and understanding of how to access and apply relevant findings from educational literature to your own practice
  • develop an informed and critical knowledge and understanding of different research methodologies

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • demonstrate your ability to critically report, analyse, and evaluate a range of relevant literature sources
  • use research evidence to draw appropriate implications and conclusions
  • select appropriate research methods to plan a piece of research

Assignments / assessment

  • Written submission - 3,000 words (100%)
    • Part A: Literature Review (1,500 words)
    • Part B: Research Instruments Analysis (1,500 words)

This module does not have a final exam.
