Mathematics provides a means of describing, understanding, and solving a problem regardless of the field of engineering that you are studying.

This module will provide you with the mathematical skills and knowledge needed to complete an engineering degree. It also aims to increase confidence in using and understanding mathematics, while building on and advancing the skills acquired in the previous semester.

What you will learn

In this module, you will:

  • develop further knowledge of trigonometry
  • develop a more advanced understanding of algebra
  • extend your skills in working with calculus and learn how these can be applied to common engineering tasks
  • learn about how to work with plane geometry and three-dimensional geometry using mathematics
  • explore logarithms and exponentials

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • confidently rearrange advanced algebra equations
  • solve advanced problems in trigonometry
  • confidently describe and solve problems involving geometry in three dimensions
  • differentiate and integrate to a level widely applicable to design and analysis within engineering
