In this module you will undertake a systematic review, clinical audit, or quality improvement project (service related project - SRP) relevant to an area of clinical practice.

What you will learn

In this module, you will:

  • devise a research question or hypothesis to test and define appropriate literature for study
  • develop skills in critically evaluating research methodology, understanding the implications of research for clinical practice and skills in writing a report and presenting data

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • set a research topic in context by systematically searching and synthesising the literature related to the research topic
  • critically evaluate the methodology used in published empirical findings relevant to the research topic 
  • interpret and draw conclusions related to furthering understanding of the scientific study in applied psychology
  • produce a competently written output that fits with your chosen topic and complies with programme guidelines

Assignments / assessment

Coursework (100%) consisting of either:

  • written report for a systematic review - 7,000 words OR
  • written report for a service-related project - 5,000 words with an accompanying poster summarising the project

The learning from the partner module to this: Module 5 (GM51059), “Research, Evaluation, and Outcome” forms the basis of the knowledge and skills required to support this module.

You will also be supported with regular meetings with your dissertation advisor and through submission of draft sections of your report for formative feedback.
