This module provides you with a sense of the different roles that Humanities can play in today’s world . You will explore the rich variety of imagined futures across time and place through a study of examples based mainly upon historical, literary, and philosophical texts. In exploring these themes, the module also introduces you to key skills for studying Humanities subjects, and is based around the core concept of practice, and how this can be applied to your academic work, and future workplaces.
What you will learn
In this module, you will:
- examine and contextualise themes such as global warming, sustainability and the rise of AI
- learn about key skills for studying Humanities subjects
- enhance academic skills
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- engage in addressing questions in practice and find innovative solutions
- complement practices in other subjects

The module is based on a pass/fail basis, and forms a core component of early training for Humanities pathways at Dundee. In the second half of the semester, a group project provides an opportunity for interdisciplinary exchange and networking for students from different subjects.
This module does not have a final exam.
