Social Psychology studies the ways in which our thoughts, feelings, and actions are shaped by those around us. This module explores the key theories and principles that shape human behaviour.
What you will learn
In this module, you will learn about:
how we develop our sense of identity and how our identity is influenced by social interactions
how attitudes shape our perceptions of the world and behaviours
what drives cooperation, helping behaviours, and altruism
conformity, obedience, and strategies of persuasion
the dynamics of group belonging, inter-group conflict, and collective behaviours
the origins of stereotypes and prejudice, leading to discrimination, and the ways we can foster inter-group harmony
how social psychology scientifically approaches the study of love and close relationships
how social psychological principles can be applied to improve areas like health, well-being, and inter-group conflict resolution
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
explain the major theories and ongoing debates across the core areas of social psychology
critically analyse how these theories have developed over time and the alternative interpretations used to explain classic studies
become familiar with using systematic and evidence-driven approaches to evaluate and interpret events and developments in the social world
