Social justice in social work aims to provide you with a fundamental understanding of the core concepts associated with social justice and its relevance in the context of social work. Social justice is a critical principle that guides the practice of social work professionals in creating a more equitable and fair society. You will explore the impact of collaborative approaches at various levels, including international, national, and local, in promoting social justice. By examining diverse strategies, you will gain valuable insights into the challenges and possibilities of achieving social justice goals and framing a more just future.

Understanding social justice is crucial as it underpins the values and principles that guide their practice. Social workers play a pivotal role in addressing social inequalities, advocating for marginalized communities, and striving for systemic change. By learning about social justice, students will be better equipped to critically assess policies and approaches, identify areas for improvement, and develop innovative strategies to promote equality, fairness, and social well-being.

Students will be introduced to topics such as social work values, cultural humility, anti-poverty strategies, activism, racial justice, gender and feminism, LGBT issues, disability and social justice, and international lessons on social justice.
