Understand the key theories regarding the relationship between human behaviour and place. Considering the physical and social environment and role of placemaking for improved community and individual wellbeing outcomes. Learn the techniques and methods used to evaluate the human experience of place, and the ethical issues involved.

What you will learn

In this module, you will:

  • investigate key theories regarding the relationship between human behaviour and place
  • consider the physical and social environment, and role of placemaking for improved community and individual wellbeing outcomes
  • apply techniques and methods used to evaluate the human experience of place, and the ethical issues involved
  • development practical skills in utilising a range of media to record and communicate

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • demonstrate knowledge of key theories relating to place and human behaviour and understanding of key physical and social environmental challenges and opportunities
  • evaluate the people-place relationship within the public realm
  • design and apply methods for systematic fieldwork observation, data collection, analysis, and communication
  • make links between theory and practice by reporting an academically sound fieldwork report, aimed at providing solutions to an identified problem
  • manage, under guidance, ethical issues in accordance with ethical codes of practice

Assignments / assessment

  • 4,000 word report (100%)

This module does not have a final exam.

Teaching methods / timetable

You will learn by taking a hands-on approach. This will involve taking part in lectures and workshop sessions. You will have the opportunity to make local site visits and attend drop in sessions.
