Ryka Widyaningtyas

Ryka lives in Indonesia and studied MSc in Nursing and Health at the University of Dundee graduating in 2022.   

About Ryka    

Ryka is an academic, practitioner and educational content creator. Her background is strong in the nursing field as her interest is in community nursing, primary health services and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). Ryka has a community service patent, namely Post Counselling Needs Calorie (POKARI) for improving the quality of life of T2DM patients. By this, she is a lecturer in the Nursing Department at Public University in Malang, Indonesia. She also collaborates with health organisations and NGOs to expand POKARI and other prevention programs for non-communicable diseases to help Indonesia’s effort to prevent T2DM as one of the highest mortality and morbidity in Indonesia. 

During her study, she was involved in several organisations and organised several community services and social projects in education, environment and health. She had the opportunity to become an intern student in District Nurse Services in NHS Tayside, Dundee. As a community nurse, this was important to broaden her experience in managing chronic disease in the primary health setting in different countries.    

Reason for becoming an alumni ambassador    

I have experience being a student ambassador, awardee of the Indonesian Education Scholarship and educational content creator on Instagram. I am also keen on sharing study abroad life and tips to Indonesian young people to inspire them to achieve their dreams and I’m happy to share this with prospective students and new graduates. I would be able to help them through my own experience and networking I have with Dundee alumni and staff.   

I’m currently supporting the University of Dundee to create content about Indonesian student life in Dundee. There will also be other content about study abroad tips.
