The University of Dundee is leading the way after the announcement of nominees for the Times Higher Education (THE) Awards 2020.

Dundee has been nominated for five awards, more than any other institution, including the DataPoints Merit Award, a title the University won in 2018 that looks at how research performance matches outcomes in global reputation surveys.

The University is also nominated for the Knowledge Exchange/Transfer Initiative of the Year and Outstanding Marketing/Communications Team awards, while Dr David Martin, from the School of Life Sciences, is nominated in the Most Innovative Teacher of the Year category.

In addition, Bill Hunter, a Professor of Structural Biology in our School of Life Sciences, is nominated in the Outstanding Research Supervisor of the Year.

Professor David Maguire, Interim Principal and Vice-Chancellor, said, “To be nominated in so many categories is a fantastic achievement and a testament to the hard work and dedication of staff across the University.

“We look forward to the awards ceremony in November and hope to be celebrating further when the winners are announced.”

The THE Awards are widely known as the "Oscars of higher education" and will take place online on November 26.

THE Editor John Gill said, “This has been a year like no other, and universities have faced unprecedented challenges as a result of the pandemic.

“While we are by no means through the crisis, the response over the last six months has been immensely impressive, and served yet again as a reminder of the dedication and commitment that exists across UK higher education.

“While this year’s THE Awards will differ from previous years, since we will not be able to gather to celebrate in person, the purpose remains the same: to highlight and champion the very best of the talent and creativity that shines out from our universities.

“In 2020 more than ever, it is vital to recognise and shout about those achievements, and we have been gratified by the huge number of entries at a time when university staff had so many demands on their time.”
