Hassan Kamran graduated from the LLM International Commercial Law programme in 2023 and was awarded a Merit. Following graduation, he moved to Pakistan to work and acquire his Senior Court License (High Court). Reflecting on his career since graduation, Hassan said, “I have been doing some interesting work in the commercial litigation sector and have been representing semi-government authorities and various corporate entities. Moreover, I have also gained experience in Election Laws/Delimitation of Constituencies, Service Laws and Arbitration.

“On the side, I have a profound interest in constitutional matters. My recent petition in the Supreme Court of Pakistan involved the 2023 Census of Pakistan which got extensive recognition from the national media as well.”

Hassan recognised the University of Dundee for giving him the confidence to explore new career opportunities. “My University of Dundee education gave me courage and capability to explore new ideas and have a more individualistic approach towards my career. It gave me an opportunity to look beyond the conventional pathway, think outside of the box and approach the next big opportunity with confidence.”

Speaking about his programme of study specifically, Hassan said, “The Dundee Law School has a very supportive faculty with an interesting approach to teaching. The course had intense moments, but it was spread throughout the year evenly and there was always time to unwind and reflect. The faculty was always available to discuss prospects and give detailed feedback. The lecturers and professors were also great legal minds who had extensive academic research experience. Thus, my time writing my dissertation was also very enjoyable.”

Studying LLM International Commercial Law at the University of Dundee prepared Hassan for life after graduation. Hassan took a proactive approach to learning and continually explored new approaches and perspectives. Hassan said, “During my course, I researched various aspects of law with an ever-evolving perspective. The course did a good job of educating me about broad issues, but it also exposed me to the potential of law in the face of advancing science and technology. Areas such as intellectual property, arbitration and world trade are technical yet interesting.

"The approach I developed during my education makes me stand out from the conventional standpoint. This has immensely helped me in my professional work and opened the horizons for me to delve deeper into new fields of law.”

Speaking about his time at the University of Dundee specifically, his favourite memory, and experiences, Hassan said “The best thing about the University of Dundee were the people I met along the way. The University has amazing programmes for international students, and it was an amalgamation of cultures. I made some great friends at the University who have supported and inspired me in ways I could not imagine. The University has a peaceful vibe and has very helpful staff. The acceptance and supportiveness made me always feel at home, away from home.

“My favourite memory of studying at the University of Dundee is attending the graduation ball. The University organises one of the best graduation balls every year. It was indeed one of the best celebrations I’ve ever attended in my life, and I would cherish the memories forever.”

Studying the LLM International Commercial Law programme provides individuals with the skillset and knowledge to prepare for a future legal career by studying a broad range of commercial modules.
