Professor Sir Jim Skea presents prizes to graduates from the University’s Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy

CEPMLP acknowledges multiple students for their outstanding achievements at a graduation reception on June 20, 2024.

The Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy hosted a reception for graduates to celebrate their achievements. The reception was held after the graduation ceremony, with friends and family also in attendance. 

Professor Sir Jim Skea, Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, was invited to present prizes to three distinguished graduates on behalf of CEPMLP. Prizes are awarded to the highest achieving students from both January and September cohorts for each programme. 

The CEPMLP Director’s Prize is awarded to the student who most effectively demonstrates sound leadership skills, participation and promotion of activities, and the ethos of CEPMLP. This prize was presented to Ms. Ogechi Nwobia-Eke, LLM in Energy Law and Policy, for her active participation and positive representation. Ms. Ogechi Nwobia-Eke said, “You can achieve just about anything you set your heart to. You only need to have audacious faith in yourself and surround yourself with people who share that same audacious faith. Thank you CEPMLP for honouring me this way.”

The Trust Sustainability Prize is awarded to the highest achieving MSc Sustainability student. This prize was presented to Ms. Wande Adejobi, MSc Sustainability, for her outstanding grade and commitment to excellence. “I am thankful to the CEPMLP for The Trust Sustainability Prize. I was thrilled to learn of my selection for this award as the top-ranking student. This recognition inspires me to continue striving for excellence and advancement in the sustainability policy field.” said Ms. Wande Adejobi.

The Gneiss Energy Prize is awarded to the student who submitted the best dissertation in renewable energy. This prize was established after a generous donation from alumnus Mr. Jon Fitzpatrick, Gneiss Energy founder. This prize was awarded to Mr. Ezekiel Okaga, MSc Sustainability and Renewables, for Renewables Transition 2024. Mr. Ezekiel Okaga was thrilled, “I am deeply grateful to Gneiss Energy for their generous donation of the Gneiss Energy Prize for Renewables Transition 2024. This has positively impacted my educational journey, and I am honoured to be the recipient of this prestigious award.”

The Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy awards three further prizes to the highest achieving LLM, MSc Energy Studies and MSc Management students. These prizes were presented to three students who graduated in November 2023.

The Gneiss Energy Prize - Top-Ranking Dissertation MSc Sustainability: Renewables Transition Ezekiel Okaga

Professor Sir Jim Skea was elected IPCC Chair for the Seventh Assessment cycle in July 2023. From 2015-2023 Jim was Co-chair of Working Group III of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change mitigation. He was awarded an OBE in 2004 and a CBE in 2013 for his work on sustainable transport and sustainable energy respectively. 

Professor Sir Jim Skea was recently awarded a knighthood by His Majesty King Charles III in the 2024 King’s Birthday Honours List, one of the highest honours in the United Kingdom. 

At the University of Dundee 2024 Summer Graduation, Professor Sir Jim Skea was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree. 

The Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy has forged a reputation for leading research and is listed in the Top 10 LLM Programs for Energy Law by the LLM Guide 2024.
