Thousands of students to graduate from the University of Dundee

In total 4,175 students will receive their degrees after years of hard work, with 3,270 attending graduation ceremonies at Caird Hall, in Dundee’s city centre.

Graduands will be joined by family and friends to mark their academic accomplishments, while honorary degrees will be bestowed upon six leading figures within their fields.

Ceremonies begin on Tuesday, with students from the School of Science and Engineering receiving their awards from 10am. A second ceremony at 2.30pm will see students from the School of Life Sciences and undergraduates from the School of Business graduate.

A further six ceremonies will follow, concluding on Friday afternoon when students from the Schools of Dentistry and Medicine are honoured.

Honorary graduates this year include six leading figures from science, law, medicine, sustainable energy, refugee rights, and inclusion and intersectionality.

Those receiving the honorary Doctor of Laws degree are Lord Thomas of Cwmgiedd, former Lord Chief Justice of England of Wales and Chancellor of Aberystwyth University, and Professor Sharon Peacock, Professor of Microbiology and Public Health at the University of Cambridge, and Executive Director and Chair of the COVID-19 Genomics UK Consortium (COG-UK).

Also recognised will be Professor Sir Jim Skea, Chair of the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), Dr Sabir Zazai, Chief Executive of the Scottish Refugee Council, Dr Arun Verma, Inclusion, Intersectionality & Impact Leader, and Professor Andrew Morris, Director of Health Data Research UK and former Dean of Dundee’s School of Medicine.
