We are recruiting an exceptional Senior Teaching & Operations Support Technician (RLT & RM) within our Operations Team. This post offers the opportunity to play a leading role in the continued growth and development of the Operations Team, based within the School of Medicine in the Ninewells Hospital Dundee, one of

Europe's largest teaching hospitals. The School of Medicine provides outstanding

medical education and training supported by world class research facilities.

To provide a comprehensive technical service for Research Led Teaching within the School of Medicine. This includes the Biomedical Science Degree courses (joint with School of Life Sciences), intercalated degrees, BMSc, Microbiology and the Assisted Conception MSc courses.

The role holder will also assist the operation managers in all areas of operations across the school and provide requisitioning and procurement support for all research activities.

Your Priorities will include:

  • To develop and deliver the Laboratory skills module for BMSc and MSc students, in conjunction with the Operations Lead and module leads.
  • Organise Microbiology teaching practical classes, ensuring provision of all appropriate materials, methods, and equipment for demonstrations.
  • Work safely with potential pathogenic micro-organisms and maintain viable stocks of the Medical School's bacterial strain collection required for practical teaching purposes.
  • Support in the maintenance of an effective animal IVF system for teaching purposes.
  • Provide technical teaching support for semen analyses, cell preparation, cryopreservation of cells, and use of specialised equipment e.g. CASA, ICSI, etc

Who we're looking for:

  • Knowledge of the Higher Education environment.
  • Experience of acting as first point of contact for queries regarding practical teaching, purchasing.
  • Experience of operating as Radiation Protection Supervisor within HE or similar environment.
  • Experience in Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART).
  • Experience of working within a teaching/research laboratory.
  • Full working knowledge of all aspects of H&S.
  • Experience in all aspects of radiation protection.
  • Experience of working with potentially pathogenic micro-organisms.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate as a minimum with intention to work towards and obtain IOSH Managing Safety.
