Sport and Active Health

Sport and Active Health (SPAH) provides the dynamic lead for the University's sporting and physical activity offer to staff and students by creating and delivering a positive culture and vision. The University mission - to transform lives - is at the very core of the Institute's work as we use sport, exercise and physical activity to improve the health and wellbeing of the University community.

We are currently recruiting for an exceptional individual to join us as a Sport and Exercise Assistant. Working as part of a team, under the direction of the Duty Manager, this post holder will contribute to the efficient and effective operations of our extensive facilities and programmes and assist in the promotion and delivery of sport and exercise opportunities to the University community.

If you have proven experience in a similar sport and exercise environment, are committed to delivering a high professional standard of customer care, and would like to work in a dynamic environment with a diverse client base, then we'd like to hear from you.

Your priorities will focus on;

  • Facilitating a safe, pleasant and appropriately equipped training and class environment for all users.
  • Offering professional and technical assistance to customers on safe and effective training practice.
  • Delivering a safe and effective pool service, including lifeguard and reception cover, pool testing and cleaning and plant room check to industry standards.
  • Providing coaching and instruction as required within programmes and services.
  • Resolving customer enquiries in an efficient, effective and professional manner.
  • Providing first aid and emergency care as required.

Who we're looking for… you will have;

  • Previous experience within a customer focussed sport/exercise environment and/or a relevant qualification in a related discipline.
  • Relevant industry qualifications (or a commitment to attaining them) including: NPLQ, gym instructor level 2, STA Swimming Teacher Award and First Aid Certificate.
  • High professional standards
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer care skills
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Flexibility in working hours, to meet the requirements of the role's shift pattern

We are one of the UK's leading universities - internationally recognised for our expertise across a range of disciplines and research breakthroughs in multiple areas, including science, medicine and engineering, amongst many others. Conveniently located on the banks of River Tay, our main city-centre campus is at the heart of Dundee - an up-andcoming, friendly, compact and affordable city with a rich heritage in design and technology. We also have campuses at Ninewells Hospital and in Kirkcaldy which are easily accessible via local transport links.
