The Centre for Freedom of Information is focused on the implementation, interpretation and enforcement of laws which provide right to access information in Scotland, other jurisdictions and at the international level.
With a focus on collaborating with Scottish public authorities and civil rights groups, the Centre strives to enhance how the right to access information is guaranteed. Covering the right to information, the right of access to environmental information and the right to personal data, the Centre is a showcase of interdisciplinary research and is on the forefront of information law issues.
The Centre's key activities include:
Organising the Annual Freedom of Information Practitioner's Conference alongside the Scottish Information Commissioner
Advising on the implementation and effectiveness of environmental information regimes
Developing knowledge on the right to information through innovating interdisciplinary research
Conducting international surveys of Information Commissioners
