Ailsa Young

Fine Art BA (Hons)

An exploration of migration told through a fantastical world of birds and insects.

About

Ailsa Young

I was not born in this country, and it is understood that no matter how long I live, I will always carry a part of where I'm from with me. One is my home, but the other is where I came to know myself. My experience is not unique, and I aim to use it to create a narrative that resonates with many.

I work to convey these feelings through the narrative of a young girl, like myself, who falls into a strange world. By exploring this unfamiliar place and its inhabitants, she begins to understand herself and how she fits into ‘Birdland’. Images of insects and birds are used throughout to express what came before and what comes next.

The full body of work spanning across a white wall. Several small and large prints are framed on the wall along several portrait style oil paintings of birds and two shelves containing two books.
