About

Profile drawing of Amy O'Brien

I am a Scottish illustrator who primarily works digitally or with ink.

The core inspiration of my work lies within the mountains of old video-games I would play when I was small. I was always enamoured by the obscure and strange, yet charming worlds to be explored and the characters to meet in these old games. I have continued to hold on to this love and aspire to create work which is narrative and character focused, capturing stories within all of my work. As such, I have worked on producing two graphic novels as my personal projects this year.

I enjoy incorporating expressive, graphic lines in my work. I also enjoy not taking myself too seriously, testing the boundaries and suspending belief when it comes to my work. Things are more fun if they're a little bit silly.

V&A Tartan Poster

A black line drawing of the Loch Ness monster on a pink, tartan inspired background. There is black text which reads "Tartan. 1 April until 14 January. Featuring special guests! V&A Dundee. 1 River Esplanade"

A poster designed to promote the V&A Tartan exhibition. For this brief, I wanted to explore the links between Tartan and the Punk scene. This poster is inspired by posters for punk shows.

Page from Book Project

A black and white line drawing of a person laying afraid in bed as some sort of monster perches on top of her. The creatures head is a rams skull.

A page from my book project, in which I created a comic that explores my re-occurring experiences with sleep paralysis.
