Calder Chen

My favourite thing about animation is how it allows you to create interesting visual stories, and I do my best to reflect that in my work. I enjoy developing narratives, and do so through writing screenplays to inform my storyboarding projects. Whilst my interest lies in storyboarding I also enjoy 2D animation- of which I specialise in 2D Effects, but I also dabble a little in character animation!

I have worked on a number of storyboarding projects individually and collaboratively, including my Potion Making animatic, featuring a young witch brewing a potion in her kitchen. I've also worked on Overgrown, a project conceptualised by my classmate Louise Pitblado which follows the lives of a cat and a man throughout the apocalypse.

In terms of 2D animation I've assisted in character animation for Tailslide and Hero's Spirit, and animated effects for a myriad of projects including: Tailslide, Astray, Hero's Spirit, and The Curious Happenings of 24, 10th Avenue! Each project calls for different effects and effect styles, I've worked graphic on Tailslide, mystically on Astray, flashy on Hero's Spirit, and softly on Curious Happenings!

I'm so glad to have worked on so many different films! Big thanks to all the teams I've worked with this year, it was a blast!
