Working on animations here at DJCAD has been an incredibly fulfilling experience for me. Since I was old enough to doodle on paper, I've wanted to pursue a creative career that put my drawing skills to the test and animating does that perfectly. Each project I've worked on has taught me more about the industry and boosted integral abilities to working in it (be it working in a team with group projects or keeping time with solo deadlines).

While my initial specialisations were Character Design and 2D Animation, I've recently decided to swap the former out for 3D Animation. This change was done because of a chance attempt at 3D I'd made last Summer that left me reeling with excitement over the possibilities of using a new animation medium. I will continue to work on my Character Design but it will not be included as part of my official UoD specialisms this year.

One project that I am very proud to have brought to life is my short film "B3". As its Showrunner, I have dedicated much of my life over the last year and a half to this film. Originally, the idea for a horror/comedy situated in a lift came to me the night before we were to pitch our concepts. I had no slides or concept art to show, only my ability to mime out the characters' actions to my peers. Since even that display got a laugh, I knew the idea had a real shot to make it to the finish line. Many months later, B3 is finally ready to make its debut at the Art & Design Undergraduate Degree Show this year.

3D Animation Showreel

Above is my 3D Animation graduate showreel that includes work from fellow student films coming out this year, namely Origami and Hero's Spirit. As well as these two amazing projects, I have also included at the end the 3D lip-sync that hooked me into choosing this specialisation.

Character Design Sheets

Digitally drawn images of a weary office worker character named "Joe" from five different angles.
Ten digitally drawn headshots of the character named "Joe", each with a different expression.
Five full-body digital drawings of the character named "Joe" doing various activities. Said activities are jumping in fright, nervously leaning over a counter, awkwardly looking away, scrolling on his phone, and crying on the floor in the fetal position.

Above are the three most important character sheets for the main character of "B3", a salaryman named Joe. Here he is shown to be grumpier than in the final film due to the original concept being that he is already tired of working his job and is just moving departments. I've had feedback from my fellow animators on the film that his round belly and bendy, noodle-like limbs are fun to draw, which is wonderful to hear as a Character Designer.
