An artist with a curiosity for everyday life and the strangers within it

About

self taken portrait of student

My work is based around the common curiosity of the mundane tasks within everyday life and the strangers conducting these tasks. Throughout my 4 years of study I have focused on the contrasting interactions within overcrowding and isolation within larger cities in Scotland such as, Edinburgh and Glasgow. I recreate such scenes using my media of choice acrylic and gouache to create bold and satisfying images. Recently I have found my work drawn towards a more personal aspect in working in customer care, the fundamental study surrounding the ideology of watching customers and colleagues alike through camera footage and recreating each screen. I wanted to show the aspect to customer service many might not know and the constant perspective of being watched which provokes the feeling of discomfort instead of safety. I hope this to relate to those who are or have been within similar situations and through my smaller satire posters can agree and find humour in what a fellow fast food employee can experience.

Acrylic and gouache painted canvas. Depicts the busy streets of Buchanan street, Glasgow. Within this artwork there is a focal point of an elderly woman in pink walking past a male hiker with an orange bag, both going by their everyday lives.
Gouache on card. This image depicts an overcrowded coffee store and the annoyance of various people from different cultures and backgrounds within the crowd waiting on their caffeine supplements.
Gouache on card. Image depicts a single woman leaning against a red food stand waiting on her meal alone within Edinburgh. The woman wears a turquoise jumper which contrasts against the vibrant red of the walls of the food shack.
