Speculum of the Other Place is a reflection on how as humans, we belong to places, but places don’t belong to us and it acts as a call for a revolution of care.

About

Emir Elisa Rizzato

Emir Elisa Rizzato is a multi-disciplinary artist, who weaves practices ranging from painting, glassmaking, woodwork, metalwork, and sound art to create multi-sensorial installations.

Within her practice she strives to find common ground, reaching people by shared understanding and inviting reflection on themes that are often left ignored. The central theme of all her works is the complex relationship between humans and nature, and in this installation, has taken inspiration from the Venetian Lagoon.

Her practice has found a balance between oil and acrylic painting and interactive elements, the platform and the rocking chair, which require the viewers’ participation to be fully functional.

Speculum of the Other Place is a reflection on how, as humans, we belong to places, but places don’t belong to us.

Using the ‘Sinking City’ as an example, this current project serves as a beacon of hope amidst climate change’s encroachment, and as an invitation for the viewer to listen to people’s hope for the environment’s future and to contemplate our collective responsibility for nature.
Rizzato emphasises the necessary connection between body and nature through this participatory installation. The viewer becomes an essential piece of the puzzle to complete the artwork as they are invited to sit, relax, and immerse themselves in the installation.
