About

Jae Lawson

Jae Lawson is an interdisciplinary visual artist and poet from North Lanarkshire, Scotland.
Lawson works primarily in ceramics, text, and drawing; creating images and forms steeped in narrative whimsy. Much of their work contains diary-like instalments of longing, wishing, and ruminating on connection.
Their practice is entrenched in nostalgia and ritual through the methodical collection of materials over time and the laborious, delicate reassembling that transforms them. The processes of moulding, carving, and collaging are used to explore the practice of queering and changing; redefining and reshaping through a variety of influences into a new whole. Their work is a documentation of how each experience, words, and touch can stick with us and, if we allow it, redirect us as we navigate the rest of our lives.
Their artwork celebrates creation as a means of meditation, catharsis, and release.
