The line between dreams and reality may sometimes blur, but perhaps those dreams are more meaningful than we often give them credit.

About

Lana Al Khateeb

This body of work intends to use dreams and memories: traveling between worlds in order to face our inner fears and turmoils as a catalyst for change, and to act as a medium for healing and growth.
Through the combination of visual art, sound work and storytelling, the intention is to create a holistic experience that encourages said self reflection.
The story follows the path of an individual, who finds themselves faced with the reflection of their past following them throughout their lives. Fragmented memories and unprocessed emotions occupy their daydreams, leaving them in dazes and trances: until one day, in their very own kitchen a sudden surge of lavender fills the room. Until they are no longer able to fight the overwhelming tiredness that had been gradually creeping up on them. The surrounding environment parts before their shut eyes. As they clutch on to what’s left in their last safe teacup, great winds, wavering gravity and familiar music beckons them to the newfound doorway. Leading them the a world where a sense of peace yet also clarity is imminent. These once fragmented memories, now represented by petals are able to be seen in a different light, with no distractions and outside burdens keeping them locked away. Though these memories in their full context should hurt, in this world it seems that effect is significantly diminished. However, they must now choose their cards wisely, for they must not stay long. As to remain in one place, is to be the fool.

There’s no Place Like Home ~ Paint a Picture

Watercolour and gouache landscape of a white skirt with colored spiral and flower details, a blue chiffon cardigan, and a pair of light blue Jean shorts floating in a sunny clouded sky over a village with square stylized bushes scattering the landscape
Gouache painting of a girl’s head upright on a plate. her hair trails off the plate. Shallow scoops are missing from her face revealing a blue interior with the texture of a dessert flan. To the right a hand holds a spoon containing a scoop from her face.

Contrary motion

black line work illustration on white silk of two siblings, a male and a female, faced opposite of each other. Surrounding them are mushrooms whose ink disperses blending into washes of purple and blue silk paint. silver highlights/dots scatter the piece.

In music theory, contrary motion refers to when two notes playing at the same time move equally away from each other on opposite directions

I intend to have a limited number of records produced for the soundtrack and potentially prints of the works presented. Depending on interest, please contact me via email or Instagram.
