Liberty Thompson

Her degree show body of work titled “All my Love” highlights the mundane and ordinary spaces of the home, while also showing the parallels between her mother and fathers’ separate lives. The paintings stand as autobiographical portraits of the artists mother and father as well as a reflection on her own unique position between them.
The title “All my Love” originates from the birthday cards Thompson received on her 21st birthday. The two separate cards, one from her mother and one from her father, both ended with the same phrase “All my Love...’
Through her use of a vibrant colour pallet and soft bush strokes, Thompson produces ambient and sometimes voyeuristic compositions of their intimate living environments. The works evoke a dreamlike sense of nostalgia in the let the viewer reflect and relate these emotions.
She draws attention to the ways in which they live: how their furniture is arranged, their fireplaces, the messages written in birthday cards, the collection of items on their kitchen tables and much more.
