Maiken Walford
A colour enthusiast who loves to capture moments of awe from the world and people around me through charming, textured and bright illustrations.
About
To me colour and texture is everything. I love playful, charming, wonky ways of representing my surroundings. Most of my inspiration comes from the people in my life and how they affect me. Generally I love to observe moments of awe and capture them in my own bright way.
I have enjoyed exploring various mediums such as gauche, Watercolour, coloured pencils, ink, Lino print, waterless lithography, screen printing, mono printing, simple digital animation, collage etc... Getting to further develop my skills and experiment with different types of printmaking has been a main highlight during university. Though often regarding myself mainly as a printmaker, the degree has challenged me to nurture and develop an authentic illustrative language that has broadened my understanding of who I am as an artist and designer. Now bold coloured pencil drawings with watercolour paintings have become some of my favourite ways to create images. I enjoy going out and sketching the world around me, spending time discovering the colours that hide in subtle tones. This explosion of colour full sketchbook work has also evolved my printmaking practice greatly.
During my time at Djcad I have aimed to create a variation of work that takes my art off the sketchbook page and into the everyday world. I believe art and deign can make the world more bright, inclusive and enjoyable. I want to use my creativity to share visual stories with everyone.
