About

Profile photo of Niamh Mitchell

An interest in the scientific and practical workings of sound and light underpin Niamh's research, however her work is far from being coldly precise. Her photographic experiments with pinhole cameras are playful, and possess an endearing naivety. Hand-built cameras become implicit in the final results, as they each distinctly characterise the images. Equally, her systems of generative sound are works in and of themselves, whether they occupy a digital or physical space, with the process being self-evident.

Collaboration and continued conversation with Joy Saunders has been a key influence on her direction, inspiring various projects and performances.
