For my project I decided to focus on the positives of Dundee with the use of photography. Being around the same places for over 10 years, the need to create fun experiences to see the beauty in the city arises. Personally, with Dundee not being my hometown, it has always been the case of making it feel like home and making happy memories. Rather than looking between the positive and the negative of the small city, my work decided to follow the route of looking at the positives.

‘Exploring the bizarre’ is a series of digitally designed commercial textiles using manipulated photography of Dundee locations through digital editing. These photographs are a mix of photographs taken by myself of places or moments in Dundee that have brought me a lot of joy, alongside photography that has been submitted to me of what the word ‘positive’ means to the people of Dundee. The project follows two collections, one labelled “reflections” focusing on a more serene and calm side of Dundee, while the other being ‘Party time’, following the side that is more erratic, spontaneous and fun. My intention with this project was to create visually stimulating and appealing textiles that are made for the use of commercial textiles, bringing attention to different textures, motifs and patterns, all through the use of photography and photoshop manipulation, followed by merging the manipulated photographs to create my final designs.
