This module covers the legal frameworks of privacy, cybersecurity, and surveillance law, both in the UK and globally. You will consider UK, European, and international contexts and explore how these laws apply to digital technologies like AI.

In this module you will:

  • understand privacy, cybersecurity, and surveillance legal frameworks in the UK and globally
  • critically discuss rights and duties for citizens, the public, and private sector bodies
  • focus on UK, European, and International law and policy to encourage insights from diverse jurisdictions
  • contribute knowledge of your jurisdiction and experience in these topics

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • demonstrate a thorough understanding of legal frameworks in the privacy, cybersecurity, and surveillance space
  • identify, analyse, and discuss particular rights and duties for citizens, the public, and private sector bodies
  • apply current regulations to digital technologies, including AI
  • develop independent research and problem-solving skills
  • comprehend legal, political, and social contexts, understanding key issues and controversies in this area of law
