This course offers the opportunity for students with undergraduate degrees in relevant subjects, such as biological sciences or psychology, to convert their studies to the neuroscience field and acquire the knowledge and skills required for a career in neuroscience.

You will be taught by non-clinical and clinical neuroscientists, internationally-renowned researchers exploring topics that range from molecular to behavioural neuroscience. You will have access to well-equipped laboratories and the opportunity to experience cutting-edge research techniques.

Whether you have a background in neuroscience or not, this course can be tailored to suit you.  The first module, Foundations in Neuroscience, covers the fundamentals enabling you to develop an understanding of important concepts.

If you already have knowledge of the fundamentals of neuroscience, we offer the opportunity to explore specific topics in more detail, including optional modules in psychology.

Core modules throughout the course will cover topics such as:

  • research methods and statistics
  • mechanisms of memory formation
  • neurodegenerative disorders
  • neurobiology of mental health
  • addiction
  • pain

They will also cover the exciting technologies used in contemporary neuroscience research.

Following the taught component of the course, we will support you to develop and complete a four-month research project that aligns with your longer-term career goals.

Madison Card
“The course was appropriately challenging, but it was a tremendous help to have the support of my peers, as well as the lecturers who were able to devote more time to teaching and supporting us because of the small class size.”

Madison Card, MSc Applied Neuroscience graduate (2022) from the USA

Vicki Simpson-Price
“The benefits of studying this course are that you get a greater understanding of the brain and experimental procedures used to investigate many biological and behavioural aspects of human/animal functioning, all of which is highly relatable to many jobs.”

Vicki Simpson-Price, MSc Applied Neuroscience, graduated 2023
